Joan Miró
Born in Barcelona, Joan Miró (1893-1983) is one of the most popular artists of the 20th century. His emblematic, colorful paintings move between surreal and abstract art. At first glance, they appear naive and almost childlike. Under the influence of surrealism, elements of the grotesque alternate with scenes of cheerful humor. Here the artist developed his independent visual language consisting of lines, colors, signs and symbols. Especially as a graphic artist Miró was very productive. He created mainly etchings and lithographs. With large editions, he tried to appeal to a wide audience.
